Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ozan Şen
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ozan Şen was born in 1977 in Isparta as the son of two teacher parents. At the age of 9, he had to stay in the hospital for a short time due to a second-degree burn on his leg and had to go back and forth to the hospital for dressings for a long period. During that time, he personally witnessed how devotedly the doctors and healthcare staff worked in the hospital. He had already decided to become a doctor in those years. In 1995, he graduated from Isparta Anatolian High School and in the same year started his medical education at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine. His aim in attending medical school was already to become a surgeon. After completing six years of medical education, he began his General Surgery residency again at Ankara University in 2002 and, after completing his residency in 2008, was appointed to Van Regional Training and Research Hospital to fulfill his compulsory service.
After a very intense 3-year compulsory service period, he completed his long-term military service as a Medical Lieutenant. After his military service, he had the opportunity to work one-on-one for a while with Prof. Dr. Savaş Koçak, one of the leading experts in breast and thyroid surgery in Turkey and also one of his former professors from medical school. Later, in order to be closer to his family living in Bodrum-Güllük, he started working at the private İzan Hospital in Muğla-Milas.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ozan Şen developed an interest in laparoscopic surgery from the early years of his residency and later improved himself in this field. In 2013, he was introduced to bariatric surgery through a phone call from Prof. Dr. Ahmet Türkçapar, who was also one of his professors. He left the hospital where he was working and moved to Istanbul. He worked for 5 years under the roof of the İstanbul Bariatrics Obesity Clinic together with Prof. Dr. Ahmet Türkçapar and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Yerdel. Over nearly 10 years, Dr. Ozan Şen gained extensive experience and expertise in bariatric surgery, advanced laparoscopic techniques, and reflux surgery through thousands of cases.
In 2015, Dr. Ozan Şen had the opportunity to go to America twice intermittently and work with the world-renowned bariatric surgeon Dr. Mitchell Roslin at New York Lenox Hill Hospital. In 2017, he attended robotic surgery training at the America Cleveland Clinic together with Prof. Ahmet Türkçapar and received a certificate in this field. He also had the opportunity at the Cleveland Clinic to work with and attend the surgeries of Dr. Thomas Ragula in the field of bariatric surgery. In 2018, he visited the world-renowned Belgian surgeon Bruno Dellamans in the field of bariatric surgery and had the opportunity to participate in surgeries at his clinic. In March 2018, Dr. Ozan Şen left his position at İstanbul Bariatrics and began working at the Türkçapar Bariatrics clinic, founded by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Türkçapar. During this ten-year period, Dr. Ozan Şen attended many national and international congresses in the field of bariatric surgery and had the opportunity to present his work as a speaker at these congresses. Dr. Ozan Şen has also authored numerous scientific articles published in international A-group journals in the field of bariatric surgery.
In addition, Dr. Ozan Şen also teaches at the university and continues his academic studies as a Faculty Member at Nişantaşı University Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Ozan Şen is an active member of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
Since childhood, his greatest passions have been the deep blue sea, freediving, and spearfishing. Dr. Ozan Şen is married and speaks English fluently.
